Dear Praying Parents, Grandparents, Family, and Friends of our precious little ones,
God’s Word is powerful. Each word in the Bible is God, breathed and inspired by the Holy Spirit. What a priceless resource God has left us to help encourage, instruct, exhort, and comfort us while we still live on this side of Heaven. If you are like me, you find God and His Word a lifeline on which to cling daily, hourly, and on some days, even minutely. Just as we lean upon God’s Word to guide us in our daily walk, why should we not also use the Scriptures to guide the content of our prayers like so many saints of old? As a new parent seeking to raise her child up in the Lord while recognizing the power of prayer in my family’s life, I hungered to proactively pray on behalf of my child. Oh, how my mother’s heart beat to pray against the temptations and struggles that will inevitably bombard our children as they grow. Moreover, I desired to pray in a way that would deepen my walk with our Heavenly Lord while feeding my soul with the meat of Scripture. One evening as my husband and I were joined in prayer, the Holy Spirit whispered softly to my heart. Why not pray Scripture over her? Why not read a chapter a day from the Bible and use the content from each passage to form your prayer? My eyes popped open. What a great solution! By doing this, I would be spending time with God, deepening my knowledge and understanding of the Word while also praying for my daughter in powerful, new ways. |
As you journey beside me in our shared endeavor to intercede on behalf of a loved little one, for you to gain the most of God’s Word upon your life and your little one’s life with this prayer blog, I ask you to read each Bible chapter if you are able. Each Prayer Over Our Children is directly inspired by the content of the referenced Bible chapter taken from the NIV 2006 translation. You will find that most prayers mirror the content of the Scripture passage (although not necessarily) because for us to pray Scripture over our children, we must use Scripture in our prayers, letting it infiltrate the very breath of the words we speak. Due to this prayer blog’s direct use of Scripture content derived from each Bible chapter, the prayer we use to pray over our children may be intense, pointed, and specific as a natural consequence of using the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, to guide our prayers. But as a mother, raising a child in the world of which we now live, should not our prayers for our children be uttered with the same fervent thrust of the Spirit’s sword to ward off the Enemy?
You will also notice that I use female pronouns like ”her,” “she,” and “daughter” as I am the parent of a girl. However, if you are a parent of a boy, please do not be discouraged from using this prayer blog. The substitution of male pronouns for female pronouns can easily be made as you pray the prayers over your son.
The Bible contains everything we need to know to live life here on this earth. Why not use it then to pray over our children for all the struggles, issues, and hardships that they will ever face?
The Bible is a valuable resource with the instruction and training up of our children in the Lord. Let it also serve to help us pray specifically, proactively, and fervently on behalf of our children. Please join me in Prayer Over Our Children.
Praying you all blessings and joy,
Marjorie Wingert
