“He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.” (Galatians 3:14, NIV) A Prayer for My DaughterHoly Spirit, fill my child today and be at work in her heart. Help her to stand on the Truth and discern what is right. ... May you give her a faith like Abraham and grant her blessing. Help her to live by faith and clothe her in Your righteousness. May she inherit the fullness of Your promises and come to know You. A friend of ours transports my little girl to preschool, since I am unable to drive. I sat chatting in the front seat with my friend while our daughters talked together in the back seat. Even at their tender young ages, the two girls managed to navigate their way through the art of conversation. Listening to the huskier tones of my friend’s daughter in conversation with my little girl’s sing song ones, their sweet, innocent child voices made me smile. “I have a Minnie Mouse purse,” my little one remarked to her friend, “it’s pretty.” “I brought mine to school for Share Day,” shared the other little girl, taking out a tiny pink purse, “my mommy bought this for me.” As the girls chattered on, the sudden realization of just how quickly our children grow up slammed me like a runaway freight train. When did we begin talking about clothing accessories?! Wasn’t it just yesterday that she was learning how to say Mommy and Daddy? Time passes so quickly, before we know it, our children will be attending their first day of kindergarten and graduating from high school! Time is precious. Time is a valuable commodity we need to fill and use wisely as parents for our children. "Train up a child in the way he should go," warns Proverbs. Are we using our time to do the training, or are we using the television, DVDs, and after school activities to train up our children? What spiritual food are we filling them up with? A diet of eternal and heavenly truths, or a menu dictated and created by the world? Just as the quality of the food we feed our children for mealtime and snacks impacts their physical development, so the spiritual diet we feed (or do not feed) our children impact their spiritual growth, priorities, choices, and decisions. May we strive to feed the souls of our little ones with eternal truths so that they may inherit the promises of God! A Prayer for MyselfDear Lord, may you help me teach my little one Your ways and train her up in the way she should go. Fill me with a persevering endurance to intentionally and consistently feed her a steady spiritual diet rich with Your Truths. Holy Spirit, guide me and lead me in the choices, decisions, and interactions I make with my daughter.
