“The spirit of a person is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the innermost parts of his being.” Proverbs 20:27, (NASV)
Let not Your anger burn against my children, oh Lord, but help them draw out the deep waters of understanding with faithfulness and love. In the same way, help both me and my children live blameless lives so my children and their children will follow in our footsteps. Let them live productive lives which are temperate and self-controlled, avoiding strife and quarrels. Oh Lord, I pray You will keep their hearts pure, clean, and without sin so they may be known by their actions with their conduct as pure and right. Give them ears to see and eyes to hear, oh God, with lips which speak knowledge as a rare jewel. Let them not engage with laziness but work diligently for honest gain so there may be lasting plenty. Direct their steps, I pray, and guide them with advice from an abundance of wise counselors. In turn, keep gossip and cursing from their lips while You help them avoid dishonest measures and cheap shortcuts. Search their inner most being with Your lamp, I plead. Secure them with Your love and faithfulness. Oh Lord, keep them from rash decisions. Instead, let my children be people of wise deliberation whose strength characterizes their youth and whose gray hair crowns them with honor in their old age.
